Barney Frank to Retire

One of the most iconic contemporary Democratic figures. Frank is an interesting guy for me. He is good on a lot of things, but he never put much force behind it. He is also bad on a lot of things, and those always seem to be the things he puts actual work into.

Incidentally, if it comes to pass, Maxine Waters will be the ranking Democratic on the House Financial Services Committee, so I’m sure Ron Paul will be sorry to seem him go.

  1. But oh yeah, Paul is retiring too. Forgot.

  2. But I’m not just being glib on the Maxine Waters thing. She’d be in charge of, you know, oversight of American banking and the financial industry would the Democrats get the majority.

A good (and preciously rare) reason to root for House Republicans this cycle.

Barney Frank was a befuddling guy in terms of how he handled the position, but he was certainly knowledgeable and had certain moral (and relatively consistent) precepts that he worked from.
