Herman Cain: “Turns Out, Muslims Are Actual People. I have Been Misinformed.”

It apparently had just never occurred to him before that all American muslims might not be terrorists seeking imposition of Sharia Law.

The more you know

For some reason, this is even MORE disturbing to me than when I thought he was just an asshole.

  1. On the other hand, how many other Presidential candidates would be willing to make a publicized visit to a mosque for the purposes of learning more about Islam?

I’m not defending Cain; he still seems kinda nuts to me (though I do like Godfather’s pizza).

  2. Hey, don’t get me wrong – more power to him, and I wish everybody spouting hollow idiotic rhetoric about muslims did this.

It’s just disturbing to me that, after calling for a BAN ON THE BUILDING OF MOSQUES and whatnot, as a candidate for president, it’s just now occurring to him that muslims are people (and Americans!) too. I sort of get critiques on Islam, but I guess I overestimate people in thinking that when they’re spouting off about the threat from muslims, it’s not because it simply HAD NOT OCCURRED TO THEM that they might be generalizing and do not, in fact, know much or anything about muslims.

  3. The apology itself is lame. Apologizing for “causing offense” is not an apology. He is plainly on the record saying that people should have the right to deny Muslims the ability to build mosques; if he no longer believes that is legally permissable, he needs to say so.
