Third time’s the charm?

Somehow I’m not too optimistic, nevertheless, Ron Paul is in.

  1. Really frustrating that he won’t let Johnson have a full go at it. Although perhaps Paul + Johnson will be greater than just Johnson. And with this weak GOP field they’ll really stand out.

  2. I suppose one cannot complain about additional options. There are enough differences between Paul and Johnson on the issues that neither has a fully legitimate claim on the other’s voters. That having been said, they ARE fighting over a small slice of the pie, and it is the nature of both Ron Paul and his fundraising operation that, once in, he will never, ever back out and throw his support to Johnson.

On pretty much every issue on which the two diverge, I side with Johnson. I also fear the possibility of the Paulite wing of the Republican party being seen as a cult of personality (see: Perot, Ross) instead of a legitimate ideological movement. So, with no animus towards Paul or his supporters, I’ll be backing Johnson this time.

  3. I’ll have to register Republican for the first time, but in the unlikely event that Johnson makes it as far as the PA primary, he’s got my vote.
