Happening Right Now

The Senate is voting on cloture for Ben Bernanke’s reappointment, and J.D. Salinger is dead.

  1. Still kind of weird to see the cross-section of the no votes. Pretty much the most extreme right with the most extreme left combined with centrists in tough elections (McCain just voted no).

From the roll call, it sounds like Bernanke will get through; a lot of on-the-fencers voting aye, although it’ll be a squeaker. I think I count about 15 nays so far.

  3. Salinger can’t be too happy about this.

  4. Bunch of phonies in the Senate.

Anyway, that’s got to be a sigh of relief for the administration. Although, as Ezra Klein (I think?) said, it’ll be real interesting to see which Republicans voted for cloture but wind up voting against the nomination.
