Is “Mandatory Tip” an Oxymoron?

  1. I get the feeling this is going to cost them a hell of a lot more than $16.35.

If I ever see “gratuity added to check” at a restaurant that marks my last and only visit.

  3. I don’t agree with expected tipping anyway. Restaurants should just pay their waitresses. If it’s exceptional service, then add a bit, but as it stands now, tipping is just about mandatory anyway. And who decides what “service” people should be tipped anyway? Waitresses make sense because they get paid less than minimum wage, but their are tip jars at Dunkin Donuts drive through windows now? Why do we tip the guy who rolls our luggage through the airport, but not the ones who load it onto the plane? It’s completely random and the whole concept should be done away with.
