D’oh

The new TSA system that checks names against the terrorist watch list doesn’t include apostrophes, rendering things like O’Reilly and O’Donnell as just OReilly or ODonnell.

TSA then specifically instructs their checkers that the names in the system must exactly match the name on the passengers ID and that, if there is any discrepancy, including apostrophes, it is to be considered a no-go.

This leads to the hilarious case of Sean O’Hare not being able to fly out of O’Hare airport.

  1. Somehow this doesn’t make me feel any safer than being forced to throw away my toothpaste and shampoo. What would make me feel safer is if the idiots running the airport security crackdown had an iota of common sense.
