I was only kidding

I understand the need to touch all the bases, but just for the record, I don’t think this was actually necessary.

Eh, a couple of people on Fox News and RedState and elsewhere were already making noise, and I’m sure some yahoo would have filed a lawsuit in not too long, which would go nowhere but probably get endless play for a day on cable news and be a headache not much of anybody on staff would care to deal with. Technically speaking, Obama did not say the actual word-for-word oath (or at least he followed Roberts’ lead and changed the word order for “faithfully”. Might as well make sure everything is neat and tidy so wingnuts will have to go back to focusing on his muslimness.

  5. Nor is “so help me God” part of the actual oath. George Washington threw it in there just for the hell of it, and everyone since has been too afraid not to do it.
