David Axelrod: Obama Misspokesman
Following up on Brad’s recent post touching on Illinois Governor Blagojevich’s farrago of malfeasance and The Jackson #5. It appears that Team O’s assertion that Obama had no contact with the beady-eyed denizen of the Illinois Executive Mansion is a bit at odds with comments made by one David Axelrod, of that same intrepid team.
BUT!
(UPDATE: An Obama Transition Team aide says that Axelrod misspoke on Fox News Chicago.)

Misspeaking is cool. I think that the next time my wife excoriates me for not cleaning the basement like I promised, I am just going to say, “Sorry, honey, I misspoke.” I wonder how that will work.
It’s a strange statement. I think precisely nobody believes Obama and his people had anything to do with this, but I do find it hard to believe that there wasn’t at least a cursory contact between Obama’s office and the governor’s, even if a brief phone chat formality soliciting Obama’s thoughts on the candidates.
Of course, this is Blagojevich, so maybe that’s not so strange after all. He hasn’t spoken to his Lt. Governor or Attorney General in over a year, and clearly he wasn’t looking for input into who might be best suited for the seat, so perhaps it’s not very unreasonable to assume he didn’t care for Obama’s input and Obama, not wanting any stories coming out looking like he was leaning on the Governor, didn’t care to press the matter.
