Who will confront the five-ring circus?

I’ve advocated for an Olympic boycott on this forum. That ship, obviously, has sailed. Nevertheless, I am intrigued by the case that The New Republic makes in opposition: The Olympics present a terrific opportunity to make dramatic statements about China’s behavior.

Stephen A. Smith follows up with the critical question: Who will have the cajones to make the case from the medal stand? American athletes are heirs to a bold tradition of protest and of self-sacrifice. Who among them will have the courage to confront one of the world’s most repressive regimes in its own lair?

Or will this historic moment be conceded to another nation? Or to no nation at all?
