Quote of the Day

I have to admit that Sully’s total submission to Obamamania has been getting on my nerves lately, if only for its nakedness. But I also have to admit I find his core argument enormously persuasive.

He has a great post up now processing last night’s debate that, I think, gets back to that core argument better than his doe-eyed posting of late has. The whole post is worth reading, if you support Obama or believe his candidacy has the potential to accomplish something powerful, or if you don’t, to at least remind yourself of one of the major, if more ethereal, arguments in his favor. Money quote:

Last night was not Obama’s finest hour. But when you look back and see what he has already accomplished by the manner and content and care of his campaign, he is obviously on the right side. Key elements of the MSM establishment, the political establishment and the ideological right and cynical left know how big a threat he is to them. That’s why Hannity can join forces with Stephanopoulos and Clinton can channel Rove. Because in this issue, they are all on the same side.

  1. As is usual lately, Sullivan has the seed of an interesting argument, but reads way too much into it in order to justify his preferred conclusion. People can want the same thing for different reasons.

I can’t wait to see Sullivan descend into screaming hysterics the first time McCain lands a meaningful attack on Obama. Phrases like “betrayl of principles” and “selling out a twenty-year record of honor and a lifetime of service” will be used.

Sullivan : Obama :: Brad : Meghan McCain

  2. I think Sullivan’s got a pretty good head on his shoulders on this one, actually, though I take your first sentence to heart.

    But here’s evidence.

We give the voters of the Republican party some credit for their sifting through and coming back with the best of them for the nomination.

Might be worth considering that, with Obama, Democrats, I think, have done the same.

Yes, one is leftist and one is rightist. And both are politicians. But they are both good, decent men, honestly preferring their respective visions of America because it’s what they believe in. That’s how it ought to be.
