Obama Camp Caught in a Lie?
I don’t think we covered it here, but a minor tempest last week went out over a story from Canadian network CTV about how the Obama people, as the whole NAFTA debate in Ohio was getting heating, specifically went to Canadian officials and told them “don’t mind that; that’s just campaign rhetoric”. The Obama camp denied the story, and there was some peripheral support from other Canadian sources that seemed to back him up.
But CTV has been doggedly sticking by the story, and after the first round of getting pounded, decided to up and name names. Specifically, The Canadian Consulate General in Chicago and Obama’s Senior Economic Advisor, who, when asked directly, refuses to confirm or deny. And suddenly the Obama shout-back has gone curiously quiet.
Captain Ed has the (guh—Hot Air link) story.
UPDATE: A reader dutifully corrects me. The Obama advisor in question sez:
It is a totally inaccurate story, he said. I did not call these people and I direct you to the press office.
Goolsbee HAS denied it. Non-Hot Air link:

I remind you that Austan Goolsbee is a former NFL National Champion, and therefore cannot be trusted.
