Experience can is fine as far as it goes, and indeed, for some people it can lead to wisdom, but it's not always true. I think the real value of experience for the voter is that it implies a long track record over which one can weigh the candidate's judgment. Stated simply: we want presidents who will make the correct decision even in tough, unpreditable situations and the only measure for that is judgment. It's one I've been curious about for a few years now, and have expressed on our blog (and off) well before Obama became the Democratic frontrunner. Perhaps also worth noting: I'm also one of those guys that thought, when George Bush got elected: "Meh, he's a dumbass, but at least they've all got hella experience". I find Obama's answer on the experience charge, "If this is what experience means--Hillary Clinton and Dick Cheney---maybe we ought to try something different?" to be persuasive.
