Mike Huckabee on Iraq’s WMD
If you missed James and Rojas liveblogging the Republican debate, you missed a bit of slack-jawed awe at Huckabee’s answer that Iraq DID have WMD, they’re just hidden.
Chris Matthews did a bit of a follow up later that night on that answer, and Huckabee revised it to say he meant they were probably hidden in Jordan. Which would be quite a surprise.
I’m guessing he meant Syria, but he sure digs himself in far enough.
I know we have a fair few Huckabee fans among our readers, but the charge that he’s a bit…shallow on foreign policy is one that finds a bit of resonance with me.
Of course, he may know something I don’t I suppose.
Yeah, I watched that Matthews bit last night and thought, “Jordan?”

I really was amazed by that answer at the debate. It’s almost the equivalent of Gerald Ford’s assertion in the 1976 debate that Poland wasn’t a Soviet satellite.
I had really though that the WMD argument had lost currency even among the hardest core of the Republican Party. But it seems that there is no argument so bad that SOMEBODY won’t make it.
