Mike Huckabee – Christian Leader
Well, that’s the pitch for Mike Huckabee, innit?
I don’t, as you know, reflexively cringe at religion in a candidate, or in general. Nor do I think this is a bad idea for a strategy for the Huckster.
But still, when the major nomination battle shaping up is between two people clawing for the Christianist title, in the hopes of upsetting an Il Duce type “security above liberty” authoritarian, it’s hard not to be a little depressed that the GOP doesn’t seem to be learning the right lessons.
An interesting parallel from across the pond:

There absolutely needs to be LESS faith in the public space not more.
“I don’t have to wake up everyday wondering ‘what do I beleve?’”
Oh, for fuck’s sake how stupid does he think people are, and exactly how stupid must one be to fall for such bullshit. Having a skeptical mind is not a weakness. It’s a strength. People who don’t believe in a magical book don’t wander lost through life day to day because they don’t have an invisible daddy figure with all the answers either.
This is the sort of thinking that is supposed to distinguish a great political leader? How fucking embarassing.

Eek. I could not vote for a person who, in a political ad, makes the primary centerpiece of his appeal the fact that he is a Christian.
