Live Free or Die
I don’t have anything to add to Andrew Sullivan’s meeting of the “but what if we have to torture to save lives?” argument, except to say you should read it, and that, while I have a pretty decent knack for respecting other people’s opinions, the side he’s debating is one I can hardly fathom, much less respect.
The idea that ideals, nobility, principles, are all completely irrelevant, that base survival is all we have, is one that just strikes me as so bestial and disheartening, I have a hard time even putting words together to refute it.
Have we really become that terror-ized? That easily? Is 9-11 really all it took?
Speaking of torture, I am just recovering from food poisoning. Sweet Jesus, it was horrible.
