Ron Paul winning fundraising amongst the military?

Sully has the link to this data detailing how much the Republican candidates are getting donated from individuals in the military (where the donor reported their employment):

52.53% Ron Paul
35.4% McCain
7.9% Romney
5.2% Giuliani
2.2% Hunter
2.6% Others

Interesting stuff, if the numbers are right. Even more interesting than Paul’s performance is how little the rest of the field, other than McCain, are getting from the military. Sully may well be onto something here:

Soldiers backing either McCain or Paul, with their diametrically opposite views on the war, suggests diversity of opinion. But it also reflects, I think, that only Paul and McCain have proposed any serious agenda for our current plight in Iraq. The rest are grandstanding. When your lives are on the line, that kind of soundbite cynicism must pall.

That might be a bit much, but it certainly seems reasonable that those in the military are even more focussed on Iraq than are the rest of the population, and from the GOP field they really are the only two candidates taking a strong stand over Iraq, one way or another.

Good news for Paul. Being loved by the military won’t hurt any Presidential candidate.
