Earmarks a go-go

Another post illustrated with a CNN link, oh yes.

Earmarks shenanigans continue in the House. Both sides produce arguments. This is the interesting bit, though:

Obey said there wasn’t time to scrutinize the 32,000 earmark requests and keep the legislation moving.

Regardless of Obey’s use of this as justification for sticking earmarks on after the bill is passed (he also tries to pin all this on the Republicans not passing much of anything last year), 32 000 godamned earmarks? Sweet Jesus. That is too many to read or debate, whatever the solution to this nonsense is (adding them after the legislation is passed is not the best solution, in my opinion; mutual agreement to ditch them all would be nice, putting them off to some future point that we’ll hopefully never see).
